The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation has acquired a license to open a new television channel in the southern African nation.
In a public notice, the state broadcaster revealed that the new TV channel shall be known as Zimbabwe National TV.
“Take notice that in terms of Section 10(11) of the Broadcasting Services Act, (Chapter 12:06), the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation hereby publishes its license for the provision of a new Television Channel called Zimbabwe National Television (ZNTV),” partly reads the statement from ZBC.
Presently, the state broadcaster operates one television channel, Ztv, and four radio stations namely, Spot FM, Radio Zimbabwe, Power FM and National FM.
The corporation has been criticised for being used as a propaganda machine by the ruling Zanu PF party, especially during elections.
Zimbabweans will this year vote in potentially explosive elections that promise to be a two-horse race between President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ruling Zanu PF and the main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party led by Nelson Chamisa.
