Zanu PF Politics|| Former VP Kembo Mohadi A Bitter Man

Political analysts have said former Vice President Kembo Mohadi, who was reportedly induced to quit his post following a sex scandal last year is a bitter man.

         

According to the opinion leaders, Mohadi and many other cadres who were in ZAPU before the signing of the 1987 Unity Accord are bitter over President Mnangagwa who has left the slot of the second vice president vacant for a year since the former VP’s retirement.

“The way Mohadi was induced to resign was very suspicious, and the amount of time it has taken to replace him, or reappoint him makes the issue more suspicious,” said political analyst Methuseli Moyo in an interview with one private daily.

Moyo further told NewsDay that:

“No doubt Mohadi is bitter, and his fellow ex-Zapu colleagues are anxious about what befell him, and who will succeed him. The way ED came into power makes him indebted to a lot of people who made it happen.  He wants those harboring ambitions to come out. It plays to his advantage to keep everybody anxious and hoping.”

Created following the Unity Accord between ZANU and ZAPU, the post of the second VP has been a preserve for former ZAPU cadres in Zanu PF.

Since the signing of the Unity Accord on 22 December 1987, Zimbabwe has had two VPs except for the period between 2009 and 2014 when Joice Mujuru served alone following the death of Joseph Msika.

Speaking to the NewsDay on the second VP matter, another analyst Effie Ncube said:

“Mnangagwa has never been a believer in the Unity Accord. Remember, he led from the front in the persecution of the PF Zapu members and in the commission of the Gukurahundi genocide in the 1980s.”

Moyo also added saying:

“The second VP was architecture of the Unity Accord that was imposed as a result of the genocide. He (Mnangagwa) is painstakingly destroying the constitution of Zanu PF while drifting back to the Zanu of the 1970s.”

George Charamba

Asked on the issue of the appointment of the second VP, presidential spokesperson, George Charamba said he could not comment on that matter.

And, constitutional lawyer Lovemore Madhuku said Mnangagwa was not breaching the Zanu PF constitution by failing to appoint the second VP.

Said Madhuku:

“The President has not breached any part of the Constitution by not appointing a second VP. The 1987 Unity Accord is irrelevant in the appointment of the VPs because it is a private contract between Zanu PF and PF Zapu. That cannot be enforced using the laws of Zimbabwe”.
