ZACC found wanting especially in catch and release of arrested culprits, says Parly Speaker

The Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda says huge revenues are not finding their way to the fiscus from the mining sector despite it being a major contributor to the economy.

Giving a keynote address during a capacity workshop for APNAC members in Bulawayo he said in 2019 Zimbabwe lost US$684 million through illicit financial flows.

The agenda of the workshop is to equip legislators with information on how to deal with corruption.

He commended the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for its role in fighting graft but added that some things need to be polished.

“I would like to commend ZACC for what it has done in the fight against corruption.

“However it has been found wanting especially in catch and release of arrested culprits,” he says.

Mudenda urged the media to be more investigative in their approach so as to bring out the truths and not focus on character assassination.
