Commissioner of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) Gabriel Chaibva has trashed the Aljazeera documentary on rampant corruption in Zimbabwe saying it’s just noise.
“Did Episode 1 of the Aljazeera Documentary help anything except noise, if any please share. It was like i was just watching Nat Geo Wild. Chamisa is politically empty,” he says.
However, the anti graft body is on record saying it is following the documentary with keen interest.
An official from ZACC recently announced that they will launch investigations into the individuals featured in an Al Jazeera corruption documentary when they have watched the full four part series dubbed “Gold Mafia”.
ZACC spokesperson Thandiwe Mlobane spoke to the NewZimbabwe.com website and gave the organisations response to the documentary that was meant to be broadcast then but was temporarily shelved by Al Jazeera, who say they are working on a new timeline for release.
“As Zacc, we have not seen the said documentary. It has not been published and I do not know where people are getting all this information from.
“Until we see the published documentary, then we will do our investigations but for now people should not speculate,” Mlobane told the website.
Apparently, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor Dr John Mangudya was fuming on Monday over the snippets released by Al Jazeera.
And the RBZ Financial Intelligence Unit has since launched a probe against Uebert Angel after he was named in the first part of the documentary.
Apparently, political analyst Elder Mabhunu has taken a swipe at Chaibva for allegedly trying to pre-empty the documentary before ZACC probe.
“Chaibva knows that the commission is going to probe those named in the documentary, hence he is trying to pre-empty everything,” says Mabhunu.
