ZACC Commissioner Gabriel Chaibva says missing human rights activist Itai Dzamara is dead

Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) Commissioner Gabriel Chaibva has insinuated that missing human rights activist Itai Dzamara is dead.

Dzamara went missing in after being allegedly abducted by suspected state security agents in 2015 and has never been seen until to date.

Dzamara was one of the most outspoken critics of the then President Robert Mugabe (ow late) before his disappearance.

No one really knows what happened to him, but Chaibva implies that Dzamara is dead.

“Team iri ndorinonzi rakafira mahara manje,” Chaibva captioned Dzamara’s picture.

The statement is loosely translated (These guys died for nothing).

Apparently, the Missing Persons Act Chapter 5:14 provides for the presumption of death of a person who has missing for a long time, or for the care and administration of the estate of such a person; and to provide for matters incidental to or connected with the foregoing.

If a loved one or someone else has been missing for a long time, one can apply to a court to have them declared legally dead.

This can happen 5 years after the person went missing (or in some cases, 1 year after they went missing.
