You want to shield corrupt deals within councils, CCC tells July Moyo threatening legal action against him

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is currently holding a press briefing on the Minister of Local Government July Moyo’s move banning CCC councilors from chairing committees or being elected mayors.

Harare mayor Jacob Mafume, who has repeatedly been suspended by Moyo, says the opposition CCC is filing an urgent court application to challenge Moyo’s “unconstitutional and cruel” actions.

Moyo is barring newly elected councillors from choosing a mayor.

The party says Moyo’s move is meant to shield corrupt deals & scuttle service delivery in local councils.

CCC says despite the huge shift in configuration after the by elections, central government issued an unlawful directive that won’t allow mayors, chairpersons & committees to be changed to reflect the new set up.

More details after the press briefing…
