The Mukuvisi Woodlands Environment Centre will today hold the combined World Water Day and the World Meteorological Day celebrations at Lake Chivero (Kuimba Shiri Bird Park)  today 24th of March 2017 from 9:00hrs to 12:30hrs.

The event is being organized by the Eco-Schools Programme Working Group Committee in collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD), with participation from other partners who include, EMA, Birdlife, Forestry Commission, COSMO, Environment Africa, Total Zimbabwe and Nyaradzo.

The World Water Day is celebrated the world over on the 22nd of March and the World Meteorological Day on the 23rd of March every year.

“These two important events fall under the World Meteorological Organization making it easier for the Eco-School to combine the event for the 24th of March 2017,” the organisers have said.

They say the World Water Day celebrations in 2017 will highlight the theme wastewater, climate change, population growth and economic development demand for sustainable solutions to make the world future-proof.

Wastewater is perceived as a valuable resource in the circular economy and its safe management is an efficient investment in the health of humans and ecosystems.

Understanding clouds is the theme of World Meteorological Day 2017 to highlight the enormous importance of clouds for weather climate and water. Clouds are central to weather observations and forecasts.

According to MSD, clouds are one of the key uncertainties in the study of climate change people need to better understand how clouds affect the climate and how a changing climate will affect clouds. Clouds play a critical role in the water cycle and shaping the global distribution of water resources.

Clouds play a pivotal role in weather forecasts and warnings. They help to drive the water cycle and the entire climate system. Throughout history, they have inspired artists, poets, musicians, photographers and countless other enthusiasts.
