Woman(21) hangs self with handbag after being stopped from marrying a married uncle

A 21-year-old woman from Buhera has hanged herself  after her family prevented her from getting married to her married uncle.

The deceased, Loveness Kashaya, was in a serious relationship with a  married relative identified as Chale Mugadzikwa also from Buhera.

Kashaya hanged herself on a tree branch with a handbag belt while on her way home after her father Josiah Kashaya had forcibly taken her away from the uncle after she had eloped.
Prior to the incident, Kashaya’s father had beaten up the love birds as the family felt that it was an act of incest.

“With anger I went to Mugadzikwa’s place and assaulted both my daughter and Mugadzikwa, I told my daughter to go home and I remained behind in order to discuss the matter with some elders.

“When I got home she was not there and her body was found hanging from a tree by a passer-by,” said Josiah Kashaya the father.

The matter was reported at Murambinda Police Station and he was picked up as they suspected that he had killed his daughter and hanged the body so that it would appear as suicide, but was freed after the postmortem confirmed that it was suicide.
