Woman (48) In Hot Soup For Calling Mnangagwa A Murderer

A 48-year old Shurugwi woman found herself in hot soup after she allegedly branded Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa a ‘murderer’, her lawyers have said.

The woman, Maria Mapfumo, was arrested and charged for allegedly undermining the authority of President Mnangagwa following the derogatory words she reportedly used in an altercation with Bernard Dangi, a Zanu PF Councilor from that area.

She is being represented by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).

Mapfumo’s legal representatives posted on Twitter, saying:

“In Zimbabwe, enjoyment of freedom of expression comes at a cost as in Shurugwi, we recently rescued 48 year-old Maria Mapfumo by securing her release from custody on bail after she had been arrested (and) charged for allegedly undermining authority of or insulting President Mnangagwa’.

“Prosecutors claimed that Mapfumo used derogatory language to insult President Mnangagwa during an altercation with Bernard Dangi a ZANU PF Councillor, wherein she allegedly stated that Dangi (and) President Mnangagwa are murderers who can connive to kill her husband, who is a teacher & who had been accused by Dangi of abdicating his teaching duties (and) engaging in political activities. Mapfumo was represented by Hillary Garikayi of @ZLHRLawyers”
