BREAKING NEWS..Zimbabwe bans WhatsApp, To block, Facebook, Social Media

Latest Today..Zim government blocks WhatsApp

Zimbabwe government has banned Whatsapp a very popular social media app used by millions of Zimbabweans.

Bulawayo, Harare, Kwekwe, Gweru, Masvingo heed shutdown call as most shops in the central business district and high density suburbs are closed.

Commuter omnibus operators have parked their kombis.

This came after the state controlled telecommunication company Tel One was pressured last night by the country’s top security brass to shut all social media related communications in the wake of deadly riots and protests in Harare and other places.

A source at the telecoms office told zwnews.com that they were ‘threatened and warned to quickly and indifinately shut all social media networks’.

zwnews.com news sources in and around the country have struggled to give live coverage of strikes and ShutDown Zimbabwe demonstrations currently going on in the country.

According to the information we have, WhatsApp is currently not working on the following networks:

  1. TelOne
  2. Liquid Telecom Zimbabwe
  3. ZOL Zimbabwe
  4. Telecel
  5. Econet
