We have ‘implemented reforms necessary to make 2023 elections free and fair,’ Ziyambi

Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi says the country has made the reforms which are needed to make the forthcoming elections free and fair.

He says President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa set up a task force to look into recommendations on electoral forms, and has done just that, adding that the reforms have since been implemented.

“His Excellency the President set up an Inter-ministerial Committee to go through Election Observer Recommendations as well as the Mothlanthe Report and make recommendations on Political and Electoral Reform.

“We have done that and made the appropriate reforms,” says Ziyambi.

Speaking during an Ambassadors’ retreat conducted this afternoon, Ziyambi accused Civic Society Organisations of meddling in the country’s internal affairs by funding opposition parties.

“Some of the CSOs were being used as conduits to fund political parties in Zimbabwe.

“But our law doesn’t allow foreigners to fund political parties in Zimbabwe.

“This is the same in the majority of countries including the USA. This plus the FATF requirements justify PVO Amendment Bill,” he said.

Meanwhile, according to analysts, his comments are not true, as they believe the current environment is largely screwed in the ruling party’s favour.

Opposition parties and pressure groups say the country needs political, electoral and media reforms among others to make the playing field level.
