Sybeth Musengezi, the Zanu PF youth activist who last year challenged the legitimacy of the presidency of Zimbabwe leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa, is now embroiled in hot soup amid indications that the ruling party has now devised the ‘persecution by prosecution’ path to cow him into abandoning his court application in which he says Mnangagwa illegally took over from late former Zimbabwe dictator, Robert Mugabe in 2017.
Musengezi is now being accused of fraudulently acquiring a Zanu PF membership card.
Speaking to an eNCA correspondent in Harare yesterday, Musengezi’s lawyer, Nqobani Sithole said:
“He’s being charged with fraud- two counts of fraud- where they are alleging that he misrepresented to Zanu PF that he stays at certain addresses and they are saying that conduct is predicial to Zanu PF’s good name and good administration”.
Political commentators see the move by the ruling party as aimed at intimidating Musengezi’s court challenge of the way Mnangagwa succeeded Mugabe five years ago.
