Warriors on mathematical chances to progress to the round of 16

ZwNews.com

Zimbabwe’s senior national soccer team, the Warriors have a mathematical chance of progressing to the next round, if they beat the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in their final group match on 30 June 2019, and hope that Egypt beat Uganda.

The Warriors who lost by a goal to nil in their opening match to hosts Egypt now stand at one point after forcing a one all draw with the Cranes of Uganda yesterday.

Four teams will qualify as best third-place finishers, and that brings fresh hope for the Warriors and their fans.

Uganda have four points from two games with Zimbabwe, beaten 1-0 by Egypt in their first game, standing on one point.

Egypt beat the DRC by 2-0 to go top of the group with 6 points from two games.

As it stands Zimbabwe’s sporting joy is on life support, as fans from across the country’s ten provinces are itching for something to cheer for.

Speaking to the press after the Uganda match, Warriors head coach, Sunday Chidzambwa bemoaned the lost chances.

The Warriors who were wasteful created a lot of chances but failed to put them away.

Khama Billiat who was voted ‘Man of the Match’ by the tournament sponsors ‘Total’ was not happy with the draw.

He accepted responsibility saying as strikers they have let the nation down, and implored his teammates to step up and take more responsibility in the next game(s).
