Zimbabweans who will vote for Zanu PF candidates in tomorrow’s by-elections because they were given mealie-meal by the party are executing ‘a special kind of stupidity that does not require sympathy’, an opinion leader has said.
According to rabble-rousing activist and award-winning Zimbabwe investigative journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono, the bags of mealie-meal handed out to vulnerable voters by the ruling party were only going to last for a week and voting for Zanu PF because of that was akin to mortgaging one’s future for the next five years.
Chin’ono said this while responding to Team Pachedu’s exposé of vote buying by ruling party candidates in tomorrow’s explosive by-elections.
“I blame the citizens if they are swayed to vote for ZANUPF because of this vote buying,” he said.
Added Chin’ono in comments posted on his Twitter handle:
“You get mealie-meal that you finish in a week’s time and mortgage your future for the next 5 years because of mealie-meal? That is a special kind of stupidity that doesn’t require sympathy!”
