An 11-member gang who were terrorising people in and around Harare has been arrested following information that was provided by members of the public.
Speaking to ZBC News, ZRP Criminal Investigation Department Detective Assistant Inspector Portia Chinho said the criminals pounced on a business premise in Aspindale where they stole cash amounting to US$1.8 million at gun point.
The vehicle theft squad arrested one of the suspects in St Mary’s Chitungwiza.
The suspect then implicated his accomplices and this led to the arrest of another suspect in Kuwadzana.
Police managed to trace the remaining suspects in Dema where they laid an ambush.
Robberies have been committed recently in Harare, Kadoma, Kwekwe and Bulawayo where armed criminals are moving from town to town using the same modus oparendi.
In most of the cases, vehicles with no registration number plates have been used to perpetrate crime and the ZRP is currently conducting operations to weed out such criminals. zbc
