Uphill struggle awaits Zimbabwe’s next President

As Zimbabwe’s much anticipated polls set for 30 July, 2018, now a few days away, the country’s next government faces a mammoth task that need seriousness, hard work and commitment to fight corruption if the desirable prosperity is to be attained.

Whoever is going to win the next elections has to be prepared to put his or her shoulder on the wheel, if the turning around of the country’s fortune is to be realised. Gone are the days where one expects to get funding on a silver platter; that is no longer the narrative.

According to former United States of America Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Bruce Wharton the country’s prosperity hinges on the vitality of the next government’s commitment and ability to work hard.

Wharton believes Zimbabwe’s economic boom, will not be determined much on the personalities, as to who wins the elections, but will be hinged more on one’s is capability and willingness to work hard.

“No matter the outcome of the elections, or the perceptions, Zimbabwe will continue.

“The new government will face the mammoth task of re-building the economy, there is always a way forward,” says Wharton.

If President Emmerson Mnangagwa can manage to charm investors, fight corruption after winning the elections, Zimbabwe is expected to register economic boom, the same goes for Nelson Chamisa, if he wins.

Whoever wins between the two needs to have an economic mindset, as the international world seem to be ready to engage the country into the ‘league of nations’ once again.

Zimbabwe had been in isolation for long, due to former president Robert Mugabe’s way of doing things.

What is therefore needed for both Mnangagwa and Chamisa is having a vision, and commitment to work, and put in place policies that are investor friendly, then the gears of the economy will start turning, regardless of who is at the helm.
