BREAKING: MDC’s Mashakada wins AU elections

While Zimbabwe is leaking wounds after minister Walter Mzembi lost UN elections early today, the Morgan Tsvangirai led MDC is in cloud nine following the election of its Economic Adviser Dr Tapiwa Mashakada for a top African Union (AU) post.

Elections were held  to fill the vacant position of Chairperson of the Committee on Trade Customs and Immigration Matters.
Hon Dr Tapiwa Mashakada was unanimously elected Chair.
He is deputized by Hon Alex Chersia Grant, from Liberia and the Rappoteur is Hon Veronica Kadogo Babirye, from Uganda.

The Committee is one of the most the important Committees of PAP that looks at issues like Integration, Safe Migration, Boosting Intra-African Trade, One Stop Border Posts, Trade Protocols and Agreements and promotion of the African Passport.

The Committee is comprised of 18 Members from Angola, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Benin, Liberia, Gabon, Uganda, Ghana, Mauritania, Algeria and Guinea Bissau.
