HARARE- The Swiss government has pledged continued support for the strengthening of democratic governance, peace, and security in Zimbabwe.
Speaking at a gathering to commemorate the Swiss National Day, at her residence in Harare this afternoon, the Swiss Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Ruth Huber said her country will continue to work with the government, civil society, churches and private sector to support Zimbabwe’s efforts in constitutional alignment.
She said her country will help Zimbabwe deal with the past; capacitate it in developing, negotiation and meditation and in the promotion of inclusive dialogue among different stakeholders in the country in view of peaceful and sustainable development.
Ambassador Huber said considering the widespread of poverty, HIV infections, and the polarised political climate, Switzerland will continue to lend support to the country.
“I am happy to note that Switzerland will continue contributing to some crucial aspects of social, economic, and political development,” said Ambassador Huber.
Despite the current economic environment in Zimbabwe, a number of Swiss companies have continued to maintain their presence in the country.
She called for investor friendly conditions.
“As we all know the frame conditions are not very favourable for attracting new investment. With cases of previous investors in agricultural production unresolved, it is therefore important to acknowledge the positive contribution by Swiss companies in Zimbabwe,” she said.
At the height of the land reform a number of Swiss investors in agricultural production sector lost their investments.
