Stray hippo kills Gwanda man(37)

A Gwanda man has lost his life after he was attacked by a stray hippopotamus on Sunday.

The now-deceased Nicholas Ndlovu was on his way to work at Freda Mine when he came across a grazing hippo that attacked and left him with fatal injuries.

Ndlovu, 37, was ferried to Gwanda Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon admission.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident before urging villagers to approach water bodies with caution.

The state media reports that the hippopotamus is suspected to be part of two hippos that have reportedly turned Garanyemba Dam into their home.
