An employee of the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) was recently promoted to a position that doesn’t officially exist within the company’s structures.
Furthermore, this employee, Rutendo Mangatu, was given a portion of the office belonging to the CEO to work from, fueling rumors of a romantic relationship between her and suspended CEO Mark Mabhudhu.
However, both have denied these allegations, with Mabhudhu claiming that it’s a smear campaign against him.
Mangatu has also claimed that senior executives at ZCDC have been sexually harassing her since her arrival in 2017, and she plans to expose their behavior soon.
Interestingly, Mangatu has not been reporting for work since Mabhudhu’s suspension, despite being expected to return today.
Mangatu’s rapid promotion within the company has surprised many, especially considering her working directly from the CEO’s office.
She was promoted three times within one year, including to a senior position that doesn’t officially exist within the company.
On one occasion, she claimed to have received a lucrative job offer from NMB Bank, and Mabhudhu asked his colleagues to counter the offer to keep her at ZCDC.
Although the offer letter from NMB was not made available to them, Mangatu received improved perks.
Mangatu has also traveled to several countries on business trips, receiving thousands of dollars in allowances and other benefits.
Mabhudhu accompanied her on most of these trips, including one where she drove to Botswana in his car while he flew there.
Mangatu joined ZCDC in 2018 as an ICT Assistant and was promoted to Information and Knowledge Management Analyst reporting directly to the CEO in 2022.
However, her promotion and the arrangement of her working in the CEO’s office were irregular, as the position didn’t exist within the company’s structures.
Furthermore, her rise from Grade C1 to D1 in just one year has raised eyebrows.
