Zimbabwe vs Senegal, looking forward, Afcon 2017 news

Forget about Algeria, Senegal is next!

Zimbabwe Warriors have a harder task than the Sunday test when they take on Teranga Lions of Senegal on Thursday, tomorrow night at Stade de Franceville

While Senegal has as talented footballers as Algeria, they are very physical.

When they get going, they are unstoppable.

Remember Henry Kamara pushing through Zimbabwe defenders and then running for about 5o meters before putting the ball behind the onrushing Gift Muzadzi at 2006, Egypt Africa Cup of Nations. Zimbabwe convincingly lost the match 2-0.

The West Africans were just too strong for the Warriors who had the likes of Shingi Kawondera, Caephas Chimedza and Benjani Mwaruwaru.

That’s what awaits Zimbabwe in their second Group B Afcon match.

Looking at the history of the two countries since 1985, Zimbabwe has won 4 encounters and lost 3.

But most matches were played before 2000 when Senegal was just a small country in football terms.

Since their win over France at 2002 South Korea-Japan World Cup, Senegal is a different and very difficult animal.

The Warriors can only count on the past record at their own peril because this is a different team altogether.

Will Khama Billiat do as much damage as Saido Mane, very possible but no guarantees.

A strong midfield and defence can take us a long way in this match, especially if we can get goals before our opponents can find the nets.

The Warriors have become a punchbag to West African sides and we need to use this opportunity to send a strong and clear message that we are here for serious business.

Below is a previous record for matches between Zimbabwe and Senegal: Zimbabwe has won 4 and lost 3. No draws
