2-1: Senegal win vs eighth-ranked Poland

MOSCOW: Senegal, ranked 27th, overpowered Poland, who are ranked eighth in the world in their opening match Group H match at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Senegal led Poland 1-0 at halftime after defender Thiago Cionek deflected a poor Idrissa Gueye shot past Wojciech Szczesny after 38 minutes.

They led 2-0 after the hour mark when M’Baye Niang sprinted back on to the field of play after injury and immediately intercepted a backpass from midfield, beating former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny and Southampton defender Jan Bednarek to the ball.

Poland woke up towards the end of the match scoring a header from a free kick but Senegal held on for Africa’s first win at 2018 World Cup.

Whats next:  Senegal will play Japan who who also won 2-1 against Colombia today.
