The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) is planning to introduce a Central Bank Digital currency.
RBZ says it is currently seeking public opinion on the issue.
Recently, newly appointed RBZ deputy governor Innocent Matshe was quoted as saying the country is drawing lessons from Nigeria as it looks at options to launch its own central bank digital currency.
Zimbabwe’s local currency, Zimdollar is not performing well it is among the worst worldwide.
The exchange rate is unstable against major convertible currencies.
Apparently, renowned world economist Steve Hanke is on record calling on the country to dump the Zimdollar and adopt the US dollar.
