RBZ misses monthly inflation target in 1Q

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has missed its target to slow monthly inflation to below 4% in the first quarter.

Zimbabwe’s inflation rose to 72.7% in March, up from 66.1% in February.

Meanwhile, monthly inflation in March was 6.3% from 7% in Feb and 5.34% in January.

Apparently, the Harare administration has for years been accused of downplaying inflation figures to present a glossy picture.

For years, John Hopkins University Professor Steve Hanke had been source for ‘correct’ inflation figures for Zimbabwe.

Trends:
Feb: 66.1%
Jan: 60.61%
Dec: 60.74%
Nov: 58.4%
Oct: 54.49%
Sept: 51.55%
