President Mnangagwa leaves for Niger

President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has left Harare for Niger, to attend the Extraordinary Summit of the African Union on Industrialisation and Economic Diversification in Africa and the Special Session of the African Union on the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA).

The President left last night and was seen off at the Robert Mugabe International Airport by several senior government officials.

Apparently, the AfCFTA is an ambitious trade pact to form the world’s largest free trade area by creating a single market for goods and services of almost 1.3bn people across Africa and deepening the economic integration of Africa.

The AfCFTA promises broader and deeper economic integration and would attract investment, boost trade, provide better jobs, reduce poverty, and increase shared prosperity in Africa.

Africa could see FDI increase by between 111 percent and 159 percent under the AfCFTA.

Meanwhile, the Assembly, as the highest decision-making organ of the AU, provides oversight and strategic guidance on the AfCFTA, including the Action Plan for Boosting Intra-African Trade.
