Police officer in court for assaulting a minor

Zimbabwe Republic Police officer, Emmanuel Makuna, based at Zengeza Police Station will on Tuesday stand trial on charges of assaulting the minor.

The Chitungwiza minor, was severely assaulted by police officers in July.

The minor is being represented by advocates from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).

According to ZLHR, the minor, who was aboard a commuter omnibus on his way to attend school lessons, sustained injuries on his head, palms & legs after he was assaulted by Makuna & other police officers who jumped into the vehicle & pushed him out of the moving vehicle before fleeing from the scene.

Meanwhile, Tendai Shonhayi, the District Public Prosecutor told ZLHR that Makuna will answer to assault charges when he appears in court on Tuesday.
