MIDLANDS: One person is reported to have died following a National Railways of Zimbabwe(NRZ) train accident near Zvishavane area.
When asked to comment on the collision and death, local police refused to give any details as they were not authorised to speak with reporters.
Poor infrastructure accounts for 90 percent of Zimbabwe’s rail accidents.
The biggest train disaster happened in 2003 when more than 40 lives were lost after a passenger train collided with a goods train in Dete area. The crash was attributed to out-of-date and poorly maintained equipment which is in desperate need of replacement and regular care.
