Pictures: The ‘chief’ & key people in Zimbabwe football match fixing scandal

AN Asian match-fixer responsible for fixing Zimbabwe’s 2017 Nations Cup qualifiers against Swaziland and matches  in the ABSA South African Premiership spent part of 2014 and 2015 in a UK jail after undermining games and  fixing matches in the English lower tier football leagues.

The man behind the rot is non other than Chann Sankaran, a Singaporean recently released from a UK prison in  December 2015. He approached an unnamed Zimbabwean who later turned whistleblower and star witness in a case likely to cause tremors in the corridors of Zimbabwe and South Africa football.

Sankaran is the mystery mastermind, referred to as the “Chief”, by the whistleblower whose expose has revealed how former warriors like Ian Gorowa and Edzai Kasinauyo worked with some current warriors to fix outcome of football results.

The cartel also targeted some named South African based who threw games after receiving bribes from the gang.

Among the high profile names involved is the disgraced former ZIFA chief excecutive Henrietta Rushwaya.

Rushwaya was fingered by ZIFA boss doctor Philip Chiyangwa as one of the main culprits in the current crises.
