A kombi carrying commuters including school children overturned killing 4 people near the Central Mechanical and Engineering Department (CMED) on Vumba-Mutare Road at 7AM.
According to Zimlive, the accident came after a police officer used spikes while at a roadblock, puncturing a tyre.
Police are protecting monopoly transporter Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO).
In his message marking Workers Day President Emmerson Mnangagwa called for a blitz against unregistered Kombis.
The government wants only ZUPCO and affiliated public transporters to operate.
Meanwhile, state run ZUPCO is failing to cope with demand.
