The government says following the disaster that hit Goble and Phonenix Primary School in Kwekwe, the department of Civil Protection ensured that all affected learners were assisted accordingly.
Speaking during post cabinet briefing, Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said in addition, Government has provided tents and set up temporary classrooms at Sally Mugabe/ Russel Primary School grounds to accommodate the 1500 learners.
Kwekwe City Council is identifying a site for the construction of a new school.
“Government has released funds for drone mapping and a geological survey for Kwekwe City Council in order to ensure the safety of all citizens and businesses,” she said.
The school collapsed due to illegal mining activities underneath.
Illegal mining is rampant in Kwekwe amid reports that senior government officials and politically connected syndicates are behind the activities.
At times, machete wars have erupted.
