Nyanga RDC, blasting company ordered to pay over US$2,600 for damages

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, has on behalf of Tabetha Rakabopa, asked Nyanga Rural District Council & Quick Blast & Civil Engineering Services to pay her US$2 644, being the cost of purchasing some household property, which was damaged due to quarry blasting at Messenger’s Camp on 24 October 2021.

ZLHR lawyers Kelvin Vada & Peggy Tavagadza recently wrote a letter to Nyanga Rural District Council & Quick Blast & Civil Engineering Services demanding payment to carry out some repairs to her damaged property arising out of the quarry blasting at Messenger’s Camp.

Some of the damaged property include a kitchen unit, a wardrobe, timber, window glasses & some roofing sheets.

ZLHR says failure to pay the money demanded will leave their client with no option but to institute legal action to recover the amount.

In response, Nyanga Rural District Council has told the lawyers that the local authority is not responsible for the conduct of Quick Blast & Civil Engineering Services.

The local authority says Quick Blast is an independent contractor whom they contracted to provide blasting services which resulted in the damages claimed by Rakabopa.
