Not gvt policy that when ED is in a province opposition parties should not conduct rallies- Deputy Min of Home Affairs

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ruth Mavhunga says it is not government policy that when President Emmerson Mnangagwa is in a Province, opposition parties should be barred from conducting rallies in the area.

She was responding to Movement for Democratic Change T leader Douglas Mwonzora has demanded answers from government why is it that opposition parties are not allowed to conduct their rallies in a Province where Mnangagwa would be.

Mwonzora had asked:

“Is it government policy that when Mnangagwa is addressing an activity in a province then other political parties are not permitted to have activities in that area.”

In response Mavhunga said:

“I do not think that its a policy that when @edmnangagwa is addressing a rally in a certain area then all other parties are prohibited from holding their rallies.”

Opposition parties in Zimbabwe had been shortchanged in that the police were refusing to give them green light to conduct rallies in same Province with Mnangagwa.

They attribute it to insufficient man power, but critics say they fear that crowds would desert Mnangagwa for opposition parties, especially Citizens Coalition for Change which draws huge support.
