No going back on shutting down all universities countrywide- ZINASU

The Zimbabwe Students Union (ZINASU) says it is not going back on its call for a total shutdown of all the country’s universities over recent fees hikes.

The students say the new fees are unjustifiable, as very few will afford to pay, taking into account that the country’s economy is on its knees.

“Unjustified fees hikes at a time where the income of the general citizenry is not even matching up with the tagged fees.

“Therefore we remind every student that academic freedom is both an individual and a collective responsibility,” says ZINASU.

The Union called for a national shutdown on the 9th of May, adding that forces in the democratic movement have weighed in, in solidarity.

The students say the economic mess and political instability are the main issues.
