A man from Murewa, aged 37, has admitted to strangling his wife to death and then forcing her to consume a poisonous substance in an effort to conceal the murder after an argument.
The incident, which resulted in the death of Ellen Mazhero, led to the arrest of Unganai Mumhanzi of Guvava Village, who is currently in police custody.
According to Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, the suspect made a false police report in an attempt to cover up the crime.
The police are urging the public to resolve disputes amicably or seek assistance from community leaders or counselors to prevent such tragedies.
The altercation took place on March 11, when the victim accused her husband of infidelity, resulting in a physical altercation.
The suspect allegedly left his wife and went to a neighbor to request transportation to take her to the hospital, leaving her unconscious.
Upon returning, he found her dead and administered a poisonous substance to her.
Police who investigated the incident found that the deceased had bruises on her cheek and stomach, and her clothing was bloodstained.
The suspect later admitted to the murder.
