More calls for Mugabe to leave Zim Presidency ‘Yahya Jammeh style’

Charles Mabhena

Figures and groups calling for the Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe to leave office are gathering momentum.

This after the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) reaffirmed its position that Mugabe’s occupancy of the position of president is not good for a radical African program.

The EFF which is led by ex-African National Congress (ANC) youth leader, Julius Malema, says Mugabe is the bastion of the reactionary phenomenon of “lead to Death” that has crippled the image and praxis of post-colonial Africa.

The continent needs Heroes who will be able to stand firm on the objectives of the African revolution whilst allowing democratic practices and succession of leadership. His example is contradictory to this ideal since it directly or indirectly promotes the phenomenon of refusing to leave office said the EFF.

The statement is in response to a ZANUPf youth league reply to the EFF charge that they are cowards. “ They should ask themselves a simple question- What revolutionary about being led by a person in old age, who sleeps all the time in meetings, can no-longer even hold a pen or write half a page?” quipped the EFF.

Recently, Botswana President Ian Khama led the chant for Mugabe to leave office. So have been the opposition parties and political analysts in Zimbabwe who charge that Mugabe’s continued rule is destroying the country socio-economic and political fabric.

The Human Rights Watch organization which launched its report on the world human rights outlook recently described Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe as one of the world’s “Demagogue” suitable for actions deemed similar to the former Gambian leader,Yahya Jammeh, who vacated office last week after fierce warnings from Ecowas and the United Nations.
