File: Mnangagwa's security
The Zanu PF race to succeed President Mugabe is getting hotter with top party officials and war veterans reminding everyone that it ‘is a good thing’ for Vice-President Emmerson D Mnangagwa to take over from President Robert Mugabe in the near future.
The weekend declarations come just after Mugabe warned war vets against their ambitious plans to force him out of Zanu PF.
Tight security for Mnangagwa
Team Lacoste who lost a fearless supporter in a car accident on Friday in Kadoma seem to be on fire while G40 is not making any moves as ‘their leader’ First Lady Grace Mugabe is away with daughter Bona and Mugabe’s grand child.
The war veterans also challenged the G40, whom they described as “traitors and treasure-hunters”, to provide police with irrefutable evidence that Mnangagwa’s political ambitions were a threat to Mugabe’s security, or risk being arrested for causing alarm and despondency.
Addressing a war veterans’ Mashonaland West provincial meeting in Chinhoyi on Saturday, Runesu Blessed Geza, the Sanyati MP and secretary for business development for War Vets said Mnangagwa was entitled to succeed Mugabe and there was nothing sinister about that.
“If Mnangagwa succeeds President Mugabe, then what’s wrong with that?” he asked.
Geza challenged Sarah Mahoka and Saviour Kasukuwere to report Mnangagwa to police if there was any evidence to suggest that he poses danger to Mugabe.
“We have CIOs , military police, ZRP to deal with that , but we have Mahoka, Kasukuwere and company wanting to tell us that Mnangagwa wants to kill the President… If they fail to provide tangible evident, they must be arrested,” Geza said.
Firebrand politician Sarah Mahoka dismissed Geza’s remarks as useless declaring: “I am not afraid of anyone. If they want to fight me, I will be at Parliament tomorrow (today). They are women, they cannot challenge me,” Mahoka said.
Meanwhile, two war veterans from Midlands province died on Saturday when their car was involved in an accident in Filabusi on Saturday.
