Mnangagwa to deliver SONA on Thursday 22nd October

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to deliver his State of the Nation (SONA) on Thursday 22, October 2020.

In his address, the President is expected to touch a number of issues dogging the nation.

His address will happen concurrently with the official opening of the 3rd Session of the Ninth Parliament.

On Thursday 15th October the Speaker, citing section 140(1) and (4) of the Constitution, informed the House that President Mnangagwa will address a virtual joint sitting of the Senate and the National Assembly on Thursday, 22 October, 2020 at 12 o’clock noon.

The Speaker said this is to mark the official opening of the Third Session of the Ninth Parliament and deliver the State of the Nation Address.

Meanwhile, in his previous address, Mnangagwa pleaded for patience as he tries to bring the country’s economy back from the ‘dead’ as his government faces blame for surging inflation evoking dark days under Robert Mugabe.

And hopes that the economy would quickly rebound under Mnangagwa, who took over after late former President Robert Mugabe was deposed in a coup in November 2017, have faded fast with Zimbabweans grappling with acute shortages of fuel and electricity and soaring prices.

Mnangagwa and his administration has been under fire from some quarters of the society for allegedly developing cold in implementing reforms.

When he took over from Mugabe, Mnangagwa became the darling of many, after promising to carry out a number of reforms, he also promised to bring the country back into the family of nations, however, his commitment has remained next to zero.
