Zimbabwe opens third high court in Masvingo

VP Emmerson D Mnangagwa was the guest of honour in Masvingo recently as the province got the country’s third high court.

For the past  122 years Zimbabwe has been operating with two permanent high courts in Harare and Bulawayo which were built by colonial governments.

The high court will be soon getting busy as Masvingo has been getting the highest number of reported murders in the country.

A lot of people have pointed to its proximity to South Africa travel routes as the main cause.

Many cross border criminals pass through the province giving it an inflated number of general crimes and murder cases.

Officially opening the Masvingo High Court, Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa said the government endeavors to ensure that justice is accessible to all the people without exception.

“The establishment of the new court here will undoubtedly reduce the back log of cases in the province. Previously, people had to travel to Harare or Bulawayo high courts for cases,” said Cde Mnangagwa.
