Linda Masarira given community service ‘jail sentence’

Linda Masarira, a vocal Tajamuka activist was given 385 hours of community service at Marlborough Clinic in Harare for obstructing pedestrians and vehicles during the July 6, 2016 massive Shutdown Zimbabwe demonstrations.

She was convicted by Mbare magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje after a full trial. Mr Mambanje sentenced Masarira to 18 months behind bars before setting aside seven months on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining 11 months were suspended on condition that she performs 385 hours of community service at Marlborough Clinic.

The July demonstrations were staged in the wake of failure by government to chat the way forward in the face of economic and political uncertainty as seen by high unemployment, failure to pay civil servants salaries in time, economic decay and the endless leadership of Mugabe despite evidence that he is now years past his best days.
