A Harare man recently cursed the day he connived with four accomplices to steal 500 litres of diesel from an Econet Booster after he was caged 10 years by a Bindura Regional Magistrate.
Magistrate Sandra Mapindu sentenced Yuwadi Phiri (47) to 10 years behind bars on allegations of stealing 500 litres of diesel from an Econet Booster in Glendale whilst in company of his four friends who are yet to know their fate.
The court heard that on April 19, 2017, Phiri who had teamed up with the alleged accomplices drove from Harare to Glendale in a Nissan Caravan vehicle which can be seen in the footage that sold them out, arriving at the case station close to Parrogate Investments in Bindura.
The culprits offloaded 27×20 litres empty containers and drained the base station reservoir not knowing they were being observed by officials from Econet, Msasa Branch via Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).
Ebnos Panganai, a Loss Control Officer with Econet who was observing the gang on CCTV alerted CID who then pounced on the gang whist still in the process of stealing the diesel.
The entire stolen diesel was recovered.
The other four will know their fate this week.
