Man nearly killed over a girl

Edmore Mhangami
A jealous driven Karoi man recently went berserk and heavily bartered another man alleging that he was having secret randevours  with his girlfriend.

Saul Sibanda of Maunje  village under headman Madzuna,  assaulted Victor Ntini with a slasher before hitting him with an empty bottle in the head.

Allegations were that the complainant was having a secret affair with Sibanda’s better half.

Sibanda was arraigned before Karoi Magistrate Tendai Chanza  facing charges of assault.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge asserting that he acted humanly.

Ms Chanza however,  found him guilty and sentenced him to 18 months in prison which was all suspended on condition that he performed 630hrs of community service.

It was the state’s case as presented by Kelvin Guviya that on 21 April 2017 at around 2100hrs, the complainant was at Siphilanzima Bottle store drinking beer.

Guveya said Sibanda who had taken one too many arrived at the same place later on.

The court heard that Sibanda started accusing the complaint for being in love with his girlfriend.

After that there was a heated argument between the two according to Mr Guveya’s statement.

The two exchanged harsh words to the extent that the complaint then decided to leave the place.

The state representative said Sibanda followed the complainant for a distance before catching up with him.

Sibanda then hit the complainant once in the head with a bottle.

The prosecutor said Sibanda went on to hit the complainant with a slasher on his left arm.

Ntini sustained deep cuts on the head and left arm.

The complainant was medically examined and a medical report was produced as exhibit.
