Munyaradzi Rukanda (46) who resides at Chivi growth point was recently arraigned before the Magistrate Court here facing charges of unlawful construction of a fuel service station at Neshuro growth point.
He was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment or alternatively to pay a $400 fine.
Appearing before magistrate Honest Musiiwa, Rukanda pleaded guilty to the charges of contravening section 97 (1) of the Environmental Management Act Chapter 20:27
The court heard that on July 18, 2017 at around 1100 hrs, Munashe Gurumani, who is an Inspector with the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), carried an inspection at stand number 535 at Neshuro growth point where Rukanda is constructing a fuel service station.
Upon being asked to produce his environmental impact certificate, Rukanda failed to produce any.
He was instructed to stop the operations and ordered to pay a fine of $1000 before the end of July 2017 but he failed to pay the fine.
A police report was made leading to Rukanda’s arrest.
