Man drinks poison after wife blocks him from marrying small house

A Mwenezi man committed suicide by drinking poison after his wife barred him from taking a second wife, Masvingo Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa has confirmed.
Masvingo Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed that Edmore Chidzivani (39) of Chembariro Village under Chief Mazetese, Mwenezi poisoned himself in his food and died.

The incident happened on Tuesday last week around 8 pm.
Dhewa urged the members of the community to value the sanctity of life and always try engaging third parties in arguments.
On the fateful day, Chidzivani returned home after spending five days at his girlfriend Juliana Shoko’s place at Cheshanga Business Centre, Mwenezi.

He told his wife Christine Madhuna (26) that he wanted to take Shoko as his second wife and was planning on paying lobola. This did not go down well with Madhuna and the two had a heated argument.
Around 7 pm on the same day, Chidzivani mother who stays 50 meters away heard her son and Madhuna quarreling. She came to check on what was happening and found Madhuna in the kitchen.

She enquired what was transpiring from Madhuna who told her about the matter and when they went to discuss the issue with Chidzivani they found him lying unconscious in a bedroom with a plastic container in his pocket.
They took him outside and tried to render first aid without any success. Chidzivani died around 8 pm and a Police report was made.
Police officers took the empty container that was in Chidzivani’s pocket and concluded that it was poison.
Mwenezi Resident Magistrate, Kudzai Manika waived postmortem.
