Blessings Chidakwa

In a rare occurrence, a Gweru man recently pulled a shocker when he dragged his ex-wife to court for failing to pay $ 150 mantanance in arrears.

Samuel Utedzi told Gweru maintenance court Magistrate Elizabeth Magumure that Chando Changunduma is a sales lady and can get from US$25 to US$50 per day in the selling of doughnuts and clothes but never gives him money to take care of their children.

Samuel added that the ex-wife is not married and does not have other children to take care of and the former couple have three children aged 11, nine and five years old.

The man said that the US$150 maintenance arrears will be used to pay for food, fees and transport expenses of the children.

In response the woman said she cannot afford the proposed amount of money since her daily allowances is not stagnant.

In passing the verdict Magistrate Magumure said the upkeep of children is a responsibility of both parents therefore it is just and proper for them to meet halfway.

The woman was ordered to pay US$25 per month for each child which amounts to US$75 from 30 April 2017 and the money must be deposited into his bank account.
