Madhuku dies from drinking Kachasu

A man from Mambewu Village under Chief Mutema’s area in Chimanimani is alleged to have died after he drank beer commonly known as Kachasu for the whole day without eating.

Chipinge district police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Blessing Kadzuraumera said the now deceased Trust Madhuku started drinking kachasu around 6 am with his colleague Silas Masekudumba.

He said Madhuku left home accompanying his friend and never returned home.

“Madhuku was drinking some kachasu with his friend from as early as 6 am till 7 pm. He left home but never came back,” said Kadzuraurema.

The police spokesperson said the body was found along a footpath by one Opinah madhuku who was going to the shops.

“A report was made at gata police base who attended the scene. The body was examined and it had no injuries and marks.

“As police we urge members of the public to desist from excessive drinking such illicit beer as it is hazardous to their health.

It is also illegal to brew and sell such beer in the backyards. Police will not hesitate to arrest the culprits,” said Asst Insp. Kadzuraumera.
