Man (38), juvenile (16) arrested for poaching, dried lion meat destined for Gwanda recovered

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of Freeman Moyo (38) and a male juvenile (16) for contravening section 5 of Trapping of Animals Control Act Chapter 20:21.

The suspects set 50 wire snares at Sentinel Safaris, Beitbridge on 07 May 2022 and caught four impalas before game scouts apprehended Freeman Moyo.

Investigations led to the recovery of some dried lion and zebra meat loaded in shangani bags in a Green Horse Bus destined for Gwanda.

Meanwhile, police say the value of the killed animals is US $26 500.

In an unrelated matter, on 09/05/22, police arrested 673 motorists throughout the country on day eleven of operation ‘Respect Other Road Users/ Remekedzai Vamwe Vanoshandisa Mugwagwa/ Hloniphani Abanye Abasebenzisa Umgwaqo’, bringing the cumulative arrests to 11 153.
