Man (27) arrested at RGM Airport in possession of 21 kgs Crystal Meth, 1.2 kgs Cocaine

Detectives from Criminal Investigation Department Drugs and Narcotics have arrested, Davison Gomo (27) in connection with unlawful possession of 21 kgs of Crystal Meth and 1.2 kgs of Cocaine.

The drugs were concealed in a consignment of 23 sealed metal pulleys and were intercepted at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Harare where it was destined for Manila, Philippines from South Africa.

RGM Airport, a major trading corridor, a gateway to Dubai and Johannesburg is bound up with patterns of human and goods movement, and consequently also with operations of smugglers who facilitate corrupt mobility.

The airport is monitored by police, central intelligence operatives and military intelligence services, but still in most cases politically connected smugglers outmanoeuvre them and do as they please.

In October 2020, Rushwaya was nabbed at the airport trying to smuggle 6.09kg worth US$366 000 to Dubai.

She was arrested in the departure lounge after going through all formalities, including security clearance, after being assisted by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s security aide Stephen Chenjerai Tserayi and CIO operative Raphios Mufandauya.
