Out spoken Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema and Kenya’s former prime minister Ralia Odinga are expected to grace the MDC elective congress to be held in Gweru later this month after invitations were extended to several African political leaders, The Sun has reported.
According to reliable sources within the MDC party who requested anonymity, stated that, invitations have already been sent out to more than a dozen leading political leaders in Africa including EFF leader Julius Malema to attend the congress.
“Among the list of invited dignitaries will include diplomats and civil organisations from various embassies based in Zimbabwe and political leaders from the African continent,” said the source.
More than 9000 delegates are expected to converge at Ascot stadium in Gweru for the opposition party’s 5th elective congress where Nelson Chamisa will attend uncontested.
The congress is scheduled on the 24th to the 26th of May this year.
MDC Spokesperson Jacob Mafume could not confirm or deny that the mercurial leader Julius Malema has been invited this year.
“No invitee has been contacted as yet. Invited and confirmed guests will be announced once protocol has been observed,” he said.
