Zimbabwe vs Congo Africa Cup Football..Team News

ZIMBABWE WARRIORS will battle Congo Brazzaville Red Devils in a highly anticipated do-or-die Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Group G qualifier at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday, March 24.

The hosts who lead the pack with eight points, need to avoid a defeat in the match to seal qualification to the finals set for Egypt in June, 2019.

Congo anchors the group with five points, but an outright win for them will see them snatching one of the two allotted tickets to the finals.

Liberia seats second on the table with seven points while DRC is third with six.

All the four teams will go into their final matches at the weekend with a chance of winning the two qualifying slots.

If the Warriors avoid a defeat on Sunday, they will go through, a defeat will only work if the match in Kinshasa ends in a draw.

Who is in the starting line up..Possible names

Zimbabwe coach Sunday Chidzambga will choose his starting eleven from a number of South Africa based players in camp who include, George Chigova, Teenage Hadebe, Khama Billiat, Evans Rusike, Divine Lunga, Ronald Pfumbidzai, Butholezwe Ncube, Danny Phiri, Ovidy Karuru, Marshall Munetsi, Kuda Mahachi, Talent Chawapiwa, and Knox Mutizwa.

From Europe he has Wales-based defender Alec Mudimu, Tino Kadewere (Le Havre – France), Knowledge Musona(Belgium),  Kelvin Lunga (SV Rödinghausen – Germany), Admiral Muskwe (Leicester City – England) and England born Nottingham Forest full-back Tendayi Darikwa.

A few local based players are also in camp. The final starting 11 will be announced on match day.

Congo Brazzaville top strikers injured, wont play Zimbabwe match

Congo Brazzaville star striker Thievy Bifouma has been ruled out of Sunday’s crucial 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) clash against Zimbabwe due to injury.

The former France youth international forward had been included in the Congo squad by Brazilian coach Valdo Filho.

Top marksman Bifouma has four goals in five outings in this campaign.

He scored the crucial equalizing goal in the 1-1 draw between Congo and Zimbabwe in the reverse leg in Brazzaville.

He will be joined on the sidelines by AS Otoho forward Cabwey Kivutuka who is also nursing an injury.

The two had travelled to Harare with their team and no strikers will be called in to reinforce the squad.
