The rescheduled cabinet meeting set for 18 August 2020 will be held on a virtual platform, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda has announced.
Although Dr Sibanda could not specify the reasons for holding the meeting on a virtual platform, it is understood that the catastrophic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic which has taken its toll on the ruling Zanu PF is the main reason for the latest move.
“All cabinet members (are advised) that next week’s Cabinet meeting has been rescheduled to 0900 hours on Tuesday, 18th August, 2020 on a virtual platform. Details relating to the actual modalities for the meeting will be provided in the usual manner,” said Sibanda.
In recent weeks, the coronavirus scourge has taken its toll on the ruling party and reports indicate that Media, Information and Broadcasting Services minister Monica Mutsvangwa is now in self isolation after her husband Chris Mutsvangwa reportedly tested positive for coronavirus.
Most Zanu PF officials are understood to be self-isolating after having been in contact with the late Lands and Agriculture minister Perrance Shiri who succumbed to coronavirus.
